Croatia Airlines - Case study

CROATIA AIRLINES PARTNERSHIP ACCRUAL INTERFACE

Croatia Airlines is a regional Star Alliance member since 15. December 2004. Star Alliance is comprised of 20 airline companies that daily have together more than 14.000 flights between 822 destinations in 152 countries.

All members mutually exchange huge quantities of data regarding flights, aircrafts, crews, destinations, passengers, reservations and many other parameters important for everyday business.

One of the aspects of cooperation between Star Alliance members is an exchange of data about passengers that are members of any frequent flyer programs. For example, Lufthansa has its frequent flyer program named Miles and More, Singapore Airlines has program named KrisFlyer, United Airlines has program Mileage Plus, etc...

Passengers that are members of any program collect miles, which they can use in flying with any Star Alliance member.

Business process

Star Alliance standards dictate that its every member airline must inform other members, that have their own frequent flyer program, about passengers that have collected miles on its operating flights.

Croatia Airlines must collect information about all passengers that are members of any Star Alliance frequent flyer program, process them according to prescribed business rules, and send reports to other Star Alliance members to allow them to credit miles to passengers.

Keito solution for supporting business process

Keito solution is based on following technologies:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0
  • Microsoft ASP.NET v2.0
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005
  • Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services 2005
  • Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services 2005
  • DotNetNuke

Keito development team, in cooperation with Croatia Airlines’ development division, has provided a solution of described business process with four main parts:

  • Collecting data about transported passengers
  • Processing collected data
  • Sending reports to Lufthansa Systems
  • Management system

Acquiring data about transported passengers

Inbound messages are processed when they arrive, and are stored in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database. Further processing is being done by Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services 2005 package, which is scheduled with SQL Server 2005 Agent.

Intensity of inbound messages is about 2000 messages per day, containing about 10.000 passengers.

Processing acquired data

After the data has been acquired and stored in database, processing follows. Processing is based on applying business rules, and is executed by another Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services 2005 package, also run by SQL Server 2005 Agent.

Sending reports to Lufthansa Systems

Keito’s solution daily sends to Lufthansa Systems data about all passengers that are members of any frequent flying program. Data is being sent in PAI (Partnership Accrual Interface) format, defined by Star Alliance.

Generation of needed files is being done by third Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services 2005 package, also run by SQL Server 2005 Agent.

Management system

Management system is developed on Microsoft ASP.NET v2.0 technology and is integrated in Croatia Airlines’ Intranet. The core of management system is DotNetNuke Content Management System.
